Publishing Checklist
Run this list on every article before it goes live on your site.
- Read it once as a reader. Does the first section answer the searcher's question directly?
- Check facts and names. Prices, dates, product names, and claims should be ones you can stand behind.
- Check the title and meta description. Do they match the article, and are they free of exaggeration? Use the metadata tool to check length.
- Check internal links. Do the links point to real pages on your site, and do their anchors describe the linked topic?
- Check images. Is every image real photography with a relevant file name and alt text? See the alt text definition.
- Check for duplication. Does this article overlap an existing page on the same keyword? If so, merge or differentiate before publishing — see keyword cannibalization.
- Publish, then watch. Use Google Search Console to see whether the article is discovered and clicked, and refresh it when it goes stale.
